Peace & Social Justice Commission Richard Kowalczyk 362-8258 This commission defines and promotes the dignity of each person. The three major goals are 1) Help people understand and act puon the idea that peace and social justice is an essential element of the Gospel; 2) Help people see that the work of peace and social justice is the work for the entire parish, and 3) Help people see that actions of peace and social justice take place locally. Some organizations assisted are St. Vincent de Paul, Right to Life, Women's Health Center, Lenten Rice bowl, and a book drive for jail inmates. We are a people-based commission seeking to increase our membership with anyone at least of high school age. Funeral Lunches Joan Tschida at 362-4375 We offer a prepared lunch to the family of the deceased member of Sacred Heart Church. Funeral homes located with LaPorte city limits inform the families of this wonderful service; meats are paid for by the family, while salads, vegetables and desserts are donated by volunteers. The service is available to members of Sacred Heart Parish and their immediate family. Volunteers to donate a dish or help at the meal are always welcome. Bereavement Committee. Joan Tschida at 362-4375 Rose Phillips at 326-5736 When a member of Sacred Heart Church of a relative of a parishioner passes away, a sympathy card is setn to the family; wake services are attended when possible. A special candlelight memorial service is held once a year alternating between Sacred Heart and St. Joseph churches. At this service, the names of all deceased from the year are honored. |
