Festival Committee Jennifer Keller, volunteer coordinator, at 326-8502 The first festival, held in 1970, after the new Church was built, was a good way to raise money to pay for maintenance for repairs to the buildings and grounds. It continues to be THE major fundraiser for our Parish. It has always been meant as a way to reach out to the entire LaPorte community, and let them know who we are. Even though the actual festival is just 24 hours long, thousands of hours of manpower go into making itsuccessful (meetings are held at least eight months of the year for planning). There are 53 hours for set up and take down, but it actually takes 400 to 500 hours to get everything done! Help is always needed, and greatly appreciated. Moving, storage, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry tasks always need to be done. There are at least 30 chairmen needed each year; they cover the dinners, booths, various concessions, bingo and behind the scenes people. Even though the labor hours have never actually been figured, we calculate that it takes at least 3,000 hours to get through the wekend. Dedicated people volunteer each and every year, but their numbers are getting smalller. Come on over and volunteer an hour or two; it would greatly help. Chairman may not know you, so if there is a particular are where you feel you could be of help, call Jennifer Keller, the volunteer coordinator. We need you! |
